Surface processing

If a secure and long-lasting adhesive bond is important to you, there is no avoiding a thorough surface treatment, because the strength is primarily determined by the adhesion (adhesive force) between the surfaces to be joined and the adhesive. The more thoroughly the surfaces have been cleaned and pretreated in advance, the stronger the connection.

Simple and thorough surface treatment? - Dondo.de!

Why is it so important to clean the surfaces to be bonded?

For a decent adhesive bond, the surfaces should be degreased and cleaned, because the adhesive should bond with the surfaces and not with the dust, dirt or even oil on them. With a cleaning product from our range, this work step is done quickly and easily, you also have a clean and lint-free cloth ready for wiping.

3M surface cleaner

The 3M VHB surface cleaner is available from us as pre-saturated cloths, individually packaged and therefore always ready to hand for quick and practical use. They are soaked with a mixture of isopropanol and distilled water (70:30) which evaporates quickly without leaving any residue. The wipes can be used on many surfaces such as metals or numerous plastics, but we strongly recommend a compatibility test.

3M 4298 Scotchmount bonding agent

The 3M 4298 Scotchmount bonding agent creates an improved adhesive force between the joint partners. It is particularly suitable for use in conjunction with 3M Acrylic Foam double-sided adhesive tapes on materials that are generally difficult to glue, such as PP, PE, ABS or PET.

BIO-CIRCLE GS200

The BIO-CIRCLE GS200 is a cleaner with a primer function based on renewable raw materials. It has a very high dissolving power and is therefore a gentle alternative to VOC (solvent) -based cleaners. It effortlessly removes even the most extreme impurities such as oils, greases, tar, lubricants, or anti-corrosion waxes. The flash point has a high flash point (100 ° C) which ensures a high level of safety in use. In contrast, it evaporates more slowly than conventional solvents.

When should you also use a primer (adhesion promoter)?

There are materials that are not so easy to stick or glue due to their surface properties. We speak of surfaces with low surface energy, i.e., the surface only offers low wettability, including many plastics, such as PTFE, PP but also rubber.

The primer acts as a primer on these surfaces and improves the adhesive strength of the part to be joined; it creates a kind of chemical bridge between the adhesive and the surface.

Please note the instructions for use in the respective product description. In addition, we recommend testing the product on an inconspicuous area before use.
